Ukuleles at UNITE

The ukulele group (Saul, Tom, Lizette, Amy, Claudia, Morro, William) were invited to BBHQ which hosted the UNITE event this week (29-31 May) to undertake a number of workshops with willing campers wanting to play a ukulele.
The group did a fantastic job, and there was a real sense of achievement; the participants went away with a new skill (some stating that they wanted to learn more about the ukulele!) and the Uke-group organised and ran the event themselves.

Well done all!

Cross Country at Southampton Common

The South West Hants Battalion held it’s annual Cross Country run last weekend on Saturday 16th May 2015 on Southampton Common. The event was held near the boating lake, with each race length adjusted for the age of the competitors. A total of 7 members from the company took part across all the age groups, this was and increase on numbers from last year.

The first race was a 1 mile run for school years 4 and 5. Well it was supposed to be 1 mile, however due to a mistake by one of the stewards the race ended up being more like 1.5 miles long. We had 2 representatives in this race, Charlie finished 1st and Oliver finished 4th. Well done to both boys.

The second race was again over the same distance of 1 mile, but was for school years 6 and 7. We had 3 representatives in this race, with Elliot finishing 2nd, Kieran finishing 3rd and Adam finishing 5th. Well done to all 3 boys.

The third race was for company section boys, school years 8,9 and 10, and was run over a 2 mile distance.  We had 1 entry in this race, where Kieran finished 4th. Well done.

The final race was for staff, again over the 2 mile distance, although they did take a short cut towards the end (after guidance by the stewards). 1 Entry in this race was Alex, who finished 2nd.

Well done to all that took part, a good turn out from Chandler’s Ford, but let’s see if we can take a few more next year. It was also nice to see some competitors travel over from the Isle of Wight, well done to those guys for taking the effort to travel and take part.

Report from Alex Mould

Remember, Remember…

On Monday night at Senior section, we celebrated Guy Fawkes night in style with a range of firework related activities.

As well as painting some firework murals and taking part in a Guy Fawkes quiz, the boy had a go at making some “light fireworks” indoors.

Here’s how they got on:

To round off the night, we finished with our own mini fireworks display outside in the church car park!

It was a truly spectacular sight and left many of the Boys speechless. Those who could speak said:

“It was the best firework display I have ever seen this year”Alex M
“It was almost good”Tom M
“Yeh, it was okay” Harvey R

Lots of fun was had by all involved and who knows, maybe next year we will have some real rockets!
